Caldwell Crafted & Curated: Savages Mal Caída
Limited Edition • 6 x 54 Box-Pressed Toro • Only 200 Boxes Produced
The Savages Mal Caída marks the triumphant return of a beloved name from the Caldwell archives—revived and reimagined through the lens of Robert Caldwell’s Crafted & Curated series.
Handcrafted at Tabacalera Mina del Rey in the Dominican Republic, this 6 x 54 box-pressed toro showcases Caldwell’s signature approach to blending: experimental, precise, and driven by flavor. The cigar is cloaked in a Habano-seed wrapper of undisclosed origin, paired with a Sumatra-seed binder and aged Dominican fillers. Though exact details remain deliberately mysterious, the construction and balance reflect Caldwell’s personal artistry and uncompromising standards.
Mal Caída—a Spanish phrase loosely translating to “misfit”—is a favorite term of founder Robert Caldwell, and fittingly captures the spirit of this release. Much like its name, the cigar rebels against convention, delivering a complex, richly nuanced profile that evolves beautifully throughout the smoke.
This release also serves as a symbolic resurrection of the Savages line, which was discontinued after the devastating 2022 fire at Tabacalera William Ventura. While not a replica of the original blend, Savages Mal Caída draws inspiration from its predecessor, offering a modern reinterpretation with a bolder, more refined character.
Tasting Notes:
Expect layered flavors of cedar, toasted spice, dried fruit, and subtle sweetness throughout, underpinned by creamy, earthy undertones and a hint of pepper. The balance between strength and smoothness makes for a luxurious, contemplative smoking experience.
