Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old Cask Strength is an unpeated single malt Scotch whisky from Islay, Scotland. Established in 1881 near Port Askaig, Bunnahabhain is Islay's most northerly distillery and is currently owned by Distell Group Limited, a subsidiary of Heineken N.V.. The 'Cask Strength' series is an annual limited edition release that provides enthusiasts with an undiluted, non-chill filtered version of the distillery's flagship 12-year-old expression. The 2025 Edition, released late in the previous year, continues the tradition of maturing the spirit in coastal warehouses to integrate the rugged essence of the Islay bay.
Spirit Description
The 2025 Edition was matured in a combination of first-fill, second-fill, and refill Oloroso sherry casks to provide a layered, complex profile rather than overwhelming intensity.
-
Colour: It retains a natural deep gold appearance with no added colouring.
-
Aroma: The nose features golden raisins and apricots balanced by toasted nuts and a light floral note.
-
Palate: It offers a malty sweetness where soft oak and dried fruit intertwine with sultanas, hazelnuts, and gentle spices.
-
Body: The spirit is robust and oily, an unmistakably Bunnahabhain character that allows the unpeated spirit to express itself fully alongside delicate sherry influences.
-
Finish: The exit is defined by oak spice and light tobacco, finished with a gentle touch of sea salt and cocoa powder.
-
ABV: The 2025 Edition is bottled at a cask strength of 56.4%
