Bruichladdich Octomore 16.2 is a super-heavily peated single malt Scotch whisky from Islay, Scotland. Distilled at the Bruichladdich Distillery, which was revived in 2001 and is now owned by Rémy Cointreau, this expression is part of the experimental 'Octomore' series known for pushing the boundaries of peat levels. The distillery’s philosophy, often described as 'The Impossible Equation', focuses on the interplay between extreme phenol levels, youthful maturation, and complex cask management to achieve a surprising and elegant balance.
Whisky Description
This expression presents an antique copper or old copper hue. The nose is a complex bouquet of soft dried fruits and sunbaked tropical fruits intertwined with Octomore’s signature sweet campfire smoke. Delicate floral notes of honeysuckle and orange blossom emerge alongside toasted oak, roasted nuts, and a fresh maritime breeze. On the palate, the whisky is rich and sweet, featuring layers of caramelized sugar, fudge, and crème brûlée followed by candied peel and warming spices. The underlying peat, measured at 101.4 PPM, adds significant depth without overpowering the nuanced sweetness. It is bottled at a cask strength of 58.1% ABV and matured in a sophisticated combination of Oloroso and Bordeaux casks before being finished in Madeira and Portuguese Moscatel casks. The finish is long, sweet, and smoky, concluding with crisp sea salt and lingering wood spices.
