Bruichladdich Octomore 16.1 is a super-heavily peated Islay single malt that combines extraordinary smoke intensity with surprising elegance and balance. Distilled in 2019 from 100% Scottish Mainland Concerto barley harvested in 2018, the whisky was malted to 101.4 PPM and matured for five years in first-fill bourbon barrels. The result is a powerful yet refined expression, with intense peat smoke complemented by salted caramel, honeyed melon, apricot, and sweet malt.
The nose brings sea spray and orchard fruit alongside dried heather, chamomile, vanilla bean, toasted almond, cedar, smoked paprika, and subtle iodine. On the palate, gentle peat smoke leads into salted caramel, honeyed melon, apricot, cinnamon, star anise, sea salt, toffee, chocolate, and coconut, followed by earthy minerality. The long finish brings black pepper, toffee, sea salt, and lingering peat smoke. Bottled at 59.3% ABV, it is an impressive choice for peat enthusiasts, collectors, and anyone looking for a distinctive limited-edition Islay whisky with exceptional intensity and depth.
