The Bruichladdich Thirty Aged Years is an ultra premium, unpeated single malt Scotch whisky originating from the Rhinns of the Isle of Islay in the Island region of Scotland. Released in early 2024 as part of the distillery's Luxury Redefined series, this expression is a tribute to the resurrection of the Victorian era distillery. Following a period of turbulence in the late twentieth century, the distillery was mothballed in 1994, with only two remaining staff members safeguarding these silent, slowly maturing casks until the site was fully restored in 2001.
Spirit Description
The Bruichladdich Thirty is crafted entirely from unpeated, pre-renaissance malted barley distilled before the 2001 reopening of the distillery. The liquid was matured entirely in hand-selected ex-bourbon casks, with half of the spirit spending its full term in refill hogsheads, and the remaining half re-casked from refill hogsheads into fresh bourbon barrels after twenty years of aging.
Colour: Pale gold, indicating a gentle and elegant maturation profile.
Aroma: Soft and complex, opening with the aroma of coconut, wild gorse flowers, Brazil nuts, and sweet vanilla, paired with floral notes of geranium, rose, candied lemons, and soft spices.
Palate: Sweet, delicate, and layered, delivering flavours of toasted oak, light fruits, honey, and fudge, balanced by a hint of leather and Bruichladdich's signature salty tang of fresh Islay sea air.
Body: Rounded and exceptionally soft, utilizing the American oak components to build deep texture without any aggressive alcohol heat.
Finish: Extremely long and lingering, showing a vibrant tang of sea salt, warm oak, soft vanilla, and sweet toasted coconut.
ABV: Bottled at 43%.
