Brave New Spirits Whisky of Voodoo The Smoking Curse is an adventurous 8 Year Old Highland single malt from Ardmore Distillery. Released as Batch #3 of the Whisky of Voodoo series, this small-batch expression combines whisky matured in first-fill Cognac barriques with whisky from second-fill Laphroaig barrels and is bottled at a robust 52.8% ABV.
The unusual cask combination builds on Ardmore's naturally smoky Highland character, balancing rich fruit and Cognac sweetness with the maritime, medicinal influence of the Laphroaig casks. Ripe plum and dried orange meet fresh oak, sweet smoke and cooling eucalyptus for a powerful yet balanced peated malt.
Food Pairing: Pair with smoked brisket, grilled pork, mature cheddar, smoked almonds, dark chocolate or orange-based desserts.
Tasting Notes: Smoky and fruit-forward with ripe stone fruit, dried citrus and fresh oak complemented by sweet peat smoke and cooling herbal notes.
Nose: Ripe plums and dried orange with fresh oak shavings, earthy peat and aromatic smoke.
Palate: Rich fruit and Cognac sweetness develop alongside charred oak, oily peat smoke and a distinctly maritime character.
Finish: Long and smoky with lingering dried citrus, sweet smoke, fresh oak and cooling eucalyptus.
