Bache-Gabrielsen BGW French Single Malt Whisky Ex-Aquavit Cask is an experimental French single malt from Maison Bache-Gabrielsen in Cognac. Produced from French barley, the whisky undergoes double maturation, first in American oak casks previously used for Cognac and then in French oak casks that previously held Aquavit. Bottled at 42% ABV, the unusual maturation creates a fresh, herbaceous profile combining delicate malt with citrus, aromatic herbs, white pepper and fennel.
Food Pairing: Smoked salmon, grilled white fish, roast chicken with herbs, creamy cheeses, toasted almonds, citrus desserts, and lemon tart.
Tasting Notes: Fresh and aromatic with citrus, delicate malt, herbs and spice, followed by a lingering balance of herbal freshness and gentle bitterness.
Nose: Lemon verbena, fresh citrus, white pepper and fennel.
Palate: Fresh malt with angelica flower and tarragon, showing a harmonious herbal character.
Finish: Long and warming with fresh herbs, delicate bitterness and lingering spice.
